I thhogut it was a figure of speech so I laughed (she danced fine), but she later told me she was serious, that one of her legs had been completely absent below the hip socket since childhood (can’t remember now if it was from birth or not). She moved pretty normally and it was the mid-80s era of ankle-length tube skirts and ankle boots, so I would never have known.I later learned that she was an accomplished horseback rider and an expert trampolinist. Before she’d get on a trampoline, she’d remove her prosthetic leg and jump and flip better than any of us, with perfect balance. It was amazing.She went to film school at NYU and I lost touch with her, but I recently heard that she’s been a documentary filmmaker for years and won a Barbara Jordan Award for a film on problems faced by Vietnamese immigrants.Reinertsen’s story brought that all back to me.
